Worst of Craigslist

I almost didn’t write this post.

The reason I almost passed because the person placing the ad is probably like me a few years ago, or like how any car guy was once: enthusiastic, broke, and a wee bit naive. Just wants a cool car project to do with his dad, and you never know if someone’s got one laying around unless you ask, right?

The problem is that project early Mustang fastbacks start at a few grand, not a couple hundred. I’m sure this young man will find that out soon enough.

In case you’re guessing if I’m going to point out the lack of pictures, grammar, or even the price on this ad, I think there’s a bigger point to be made about this post. It’s something that anyone who has ever placed an ad on craigslist knows, but maybe you don’t.

Craigslist is free.

As such, there is absolutely no fucking reason to make an ad with two cars other than sheer laziness. None.

The title of the ad is misleading (it’s not a 1991 Volvo and 1994 Ford van for for $1950, is it?). The seller says “AS YOU CAN SEE IT HAS LEATHER INTERIOR” blah blah blah. Actually, no I can’t see that. I can see two thirds of the Volvo (whatever model it may be) and three quarters of the Ford van because you were cocking about (I’ve been watching Top Gear) and being lazy instead of taking pictures and creating two advertisements for two fucking cars.

As the seller would say, thnaks you.

Now this is an oddly-specific request. Color me curious.

Pretty much everyplace that has emissions testing (including CA and here in TN) requires is for cars 1975 and newer, so getting a 77 or older car makes no sense in that respect. I had thought maybe the person who placed the ad wanted something the same year he (or his kid/wife/whatever) was born, but it doesn’t say specifically 1977 - just 77 or older.

They also don’t mention anything about a specific type (4-door, 2-door, sports, luxury, etc) of car. Just full size, which basically eliminates, imports, Vegas, and Pintos.

Anyone got an idea why this person wants something 77 or older?
